RED Project funding is intended to enable research groups at Campus Solna to explore new hypotheses, innovative biomedical ideas, and significant biological challenges. This includes the exploration of high-risk, novel technical applications that may not yet be mature enough for conventional funding. Projects should aim for proof-of-principle with a strong potential for future impact.
A project grant can be used for all types of project costs, including:
Funding Level: Grants are typically funded at a maximum level of 1 MSEK/yr for up to 2 years. The total budget for RED projects has been increased. The ambition is to support 6 high-caliber ongoing projects.
Open to SciLifeLab group leaders at Stockholm Trio (KTH, KI & SU).
Applications should preferably involve two independent research groups, at least one established and located at SciLifeLab Campus Solna, demonstrating clear scientific synergy that would not exist otherwise.
"Blue-sky" research and high-risk, high-reward concepts are prioritized over incremental projects.
Priority is given to projects with the potential to develop new technologies or methodologies for the SciLifeLab infrastructure at Campus Solna.
Applications will be reviewed by a panel based on the following criteria:
Scientific Excellence: Scientific merit and the applicants' past performance.
Collaboration Synergy: The necessity and benefit of the multi-university partnership.
Innovation Potential: The degree of "high-risk, high-reward" technical development.
Infrastructure Development: Applicability to the broader SciLifeLab technical environment.
Feasibility: The likelihood of achieving proof-of-principle.
Note: The evaluation committee is instructed to fund only projects of the absolute highest quality, even if it means not exhausting the full annual budget.

Required Components:
Project Aims: Brief description of aims and future potential impact (Max 1,500 characters).
Project Plan: Detailed description of execution, collaborative partners, and resources (Max 9,000 characters).
Future Potential and Impact: Explanation of how the technology can be broadly applied to biological problems (Max 1,500 characters).
Budget: A relevant two-year budget specifying personnel, equipment, and consumables.
